Webcast – Immigration update: Will ending Title 42 expand asylum or deepen regional militarization?

May 10, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

español abajo
Title 42 is coming to an end, and U.S. President Joe Biden has proposed a raft of new immigration policies under the guise of ‘reform.’

The Trump era emergency measures will be gone, replaced with policies that will expand border militarization, increase the number of deportation flights and penalties for people who enter the country by sea, and calls for the construction of ‘processing centers’ in Guatemala and Colombia.

Announced jointly with the government of Mexico, these new policies also include proposals to continue deportations of third party immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela into Mexico.

So what does it all mean for migrants, asylum seekers and border communities?

Join us for a webinar next Wednesday, May 10th (5:30pm PT / 8:30pm ET), as we bring together a group of expert voices to discuss the rapidly shifting landscape on immigration.

Global Exchange’s Marco Castillo will moderate a far reaching conversation with:

  • Bill Hing – Professor of Law and Migration Studies at Univ of San Francisco
  • Gretchen Kuhner – Institute for Women in Migration
  • Camilo Pérez-Bustillo – National Lawyers Guild and Witness at the Border

In this program, we’ll discuss the potential implications of this legislation on communities across the United States,  Mexico and the region, as well as the domestic political considerations that are driving governmental decision making.

Will you join us for this  event to take part in this vital conversation?
