MAPA Annual Meeting 2023
The keynote address will be presented by the historian of racism and imperialism, Gerald Horne. Horne holds the John J. and Rebecca Moores Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. He is the author of 17 books and over 100 scholarly articles. His research has addressed issues of race in a variety of relations involving labor, politics, civil rights and war. Horne received his Ph.D. in history from Columbia University and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Horne’s book titles include The Apocalypse of Settler Colonialism: The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy and Capitalism in Seventeenth Century North America and the Caribbean; Confronting Black Jacobins: The U.S., the Haitian Revolution and the Origins of the Dominican Republic; and The Counter-Revolution of 1776: Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States of America.
After the keynote address and Q&A period, the board will present MAPA’s 2023 program plan for ratification by the members.
Breakouts will allow members to meet each other and make new connections.
In the business meeting, we will elect board members and hear a financial report from the treasurer.
