As the CODEPINK and Task Force on the Americas delegation returned from Venezuela, we can’t wait to report back our journey. For 13 days, our group of 15 delegates had the privilege to collaborate with the Venezuelan socialist communes, and what we witnessed was nothing short of extraordinary.
Each one of us has a story to tell – a unique perspective on what we experienced. But there is one common thread that ties all of our stories together – a shared feeling of hope. The Venezuelan socialist communes are a living testament to what is possible when the people come together to build sustainable, self-sufficient communities that are centered around social justice, ecological sustainability, and community well-being.
But perhaps the most inspiring part of our trip was meeting the people of Venezuela. Despite all the challenges they face due to the U.S sanctions, they welcomed us with open arms. We shared meals, laughter, and tears with people from all walks of life – from street vendors to community leaders, from farmers to factory workers. They shared their struggles, but also their hope for a better future.
