Tuesday, Oct 17 Capitol Calling Party

As millions across the world protest Israel’s collective punishment of Gaza, CODEPINK joins efforts to hold Israel accountable under international law for genocide.

Join us as we host international law attorneys to discuss next steps at the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has jurisdiction to prosecute criminal cases. We will also discuss possible overtures to the International Court of Justice, which hears civil cases between parties, and efforts to hold President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken and Secretary of Defense Austin accountable for aiding and abetting genocide..

Under the UN Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide and Article 6 of the Rome Statute, the crime of genocide occurs when a nation deliberately inflicts on the group “conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”

Under these terms, Israel commits US-funded genocide in Gaza when it bombs civilian targets-hospitals, schools, UN refugee centers, journalists, UN workers, mosques, apartments and escape routes– while denying an imprisoned population water, food, medicine and fuel. Since October 7th, Israel’s assault with US weapons has resulted in tens of thousands of Gazans killed or wounded and 1.7 million people displaced, including almost a million in 154 UNRWA shelters, some of which Israel has bombed. In the words of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, “Gaza has become a graveyard for children.”

Demand Israel be put on trial for genocide!

Support legal efforts to STOP Biden from aiding & abetting genocide!

She has testified at military courts-martial about the illegality of the wars, the duty to obey lawful orders, and the duty to disobey unlawful orders. Her recent article, “Self-Defense and the Right to Resist in Palestine,” refutes the Israeli government’s claim that its assault on Gaza is justified as self-defense.

Katherine Gallagher is a Senior Staff Attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights. She works on universal jurisdiction and international criminal law cases involving U.S. and foreign officials and torture and other war crimes, and civil actions involving private military corporations and torture at Abu Ghraib. On Nov. 13, the Center for Constitutional Rights filed a lawsuit against President Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III for complicity with genocide.
