In August commemorative and peace building conferences were held in South Korea on the
70 th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement. The International World Conference against A- &H- Bombs was held in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Meanwhile President Biden held a summit with Japanese and South Korean leaders to deepen the trilateral military alliance to contain China and constrain North Korea. China tightened its military encirclement of Taiwan, the trilateral allies conducted join military “exercises” in shows of force. And as the great powers spent billions preparing for nuclear Armageddon, the climate emergency’s record heat, floods, and fires put humanity on notice.

Join Joseph Gerson and Margaret Engle as they share what they learned in Asia and
movement plans for war prevention, peace, and disarmament.

Joseph Gerson, President of the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security
and Co-Chair of the Committee for a Sane U.S.-China Policy is working with Asia-Pacific partners in developing common security alternatives for the region. He participated in two conferences, a 70 th anniversary of the Korean Armistice, and visited communities impacted by U.S. military bases while in Korea and in the World Conference against A- & H- Bombs.

Margaret Engel, Student and Campaigns Coordinator for Peace Action New York State, and
is based in West Harlem, New York. She helps oversee a network of PANYS university
chapters across New York who launch campus peace initiatives each semester. She
participated in the World Conference against A- & H- Bombs and has participated in MIT’s
Reducing the Threat of Nuclear War conference and the International Peace Bureau’s
PeaceWave.
