online – Digital Security 101 for activists and organizers

August 7 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Hi Mario,

Around the world, millions of people use the internet to protest the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. But in the U.S., the recent passing of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) in the Senate could change how we organize online. This bill pretends to protect kids, but it gives the government power to censor “inappropriate” content, including LGBTQ resources and reproductive healthcare [1]. That’s why we must be prepared to protect ourselves, our community, and our internet freedom.

We’re hosting Digital Security 101 for activists and organizers on Wed, Aug 7 at 10AM PT / 1PM ET. Live captioning and ASL will be provided.

Together, we will go over the basics of Digital Security including tools to protect your devices, accounts, personal data, and communications. It will also include tips on protecting yourself when you’re out on the streets protesting.

Thousands are gathering in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention in the coming weeks to demand change on a range of issues like immigrant rights, reparations, and Palestine. And Chicago is responding with increased surveillance and militarization [2]. As we March on the DNC, we must also care for each other – whether that’s masking up, keeping hydrated, or protecting our data.

As organizers and activists fighting for liberation, we must keep ourselves safe. Join Digital Security 101 as we gather to share resources and pool our collective knowledge.
