This is a major crisis that has been going on for years, with thousands of people living – and some dying – on our city streets. We don’t have the time to go into in depth here, but here’s where you can find out more about it. The Homeward Street Journal newsletter has been published since 1997, educating the public about housing and poverty issues. It gives the unhoused a voice in a public forum, and also informs the unhoused of shelter and other resources.
If you check it out, you’ll be awakened to a whole population of people that we see every day on our streets. They’re people, just like us, who can’t afford a place to live. There’s even a soccer team composed of unhoused members! While the city scrambles from one temporary solution to another, no one seems to be looking at the root cause: poverty, in “the richest country in the world!” Do you think it might have something to do with the $100 million an hour we’re pouring down the sinkhole of US militarism? We can’t include their newsletter here, but do yourself a favor and take a look at their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HomewardStreet/.
You’ll find a lot of information, and maybe even where to get a copy of the newspaper. You will be rewarded. We’ll try to do a story on them later.
